Leading up to our participation in the <\/em> National Retail Federation\u2019s 2011 \u201cRetail\u2019s Big Show\u201d<\/em> from January 9 \u2013 12 in New York city, <\/em>M2SYS Technology<\/em><\/strong><\/a> is publishing a blog series on the top 15 reasons that biometrics is a smart choice for retail organizations to consider as an authentication technology in <\/em>workforce management<\/em><\/strong><\/a> and <\/em>retail point of sale<\/a><\/em><\/strong> applications.<\/em><\/p>\n

Reason #1 \u2013 Stop \u201cBuddy Punching\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the summer, we wrote about the practice of buddy punching<\/strong><\/a>,<\/strong> a nefarious practice where one employee inappropriately clocks in or out for another employee.\u00a0 We wrote about the negative consequences that buddy punching has on a business\u2019s bottom line and how millions of dollars per year is siphoned from profits and revenues in many vertical markets due to this practice.\u00a0 Particularly concerning is that there are many organizations that do not even realize that buddy punching is occurring among their employees and when they do find out that it is being practiced, they are unaware of what to do about it.<\/p>\n

For many of these businesses that sniff out employees engaging in buddy punching, deciding how to stop it has become an arduous task.\u00a0 There are many time and attendance companies that offer technologies which arguably could be the fastest way at the cheapest cost to expedite the clock in\/clock out process, but not the surest. \u00a0Wouldn’t you want to know, without a shadow of a doubt that the technology you are using offers the only true way to be sure that buddy punching \u00a0just isn’t going to happen? \u00a0Biometrics<\/strong><\/a> is the only way to be sure.<\/p>\n

Cutting through the clutter can be time consuming and confusing, you may find technology choices offer advantages, but no sure way to be absolutely certain to eliminate buddy punching, \u00a0Evaluating the pros and cons of each technology to make a decision as to which would be the best solution to demonstrate\u00a0accuracy and security but still achieve a high return on your investment<\/strong> <\/a>should be the goal, and biometrics is worth researching.<\/p>\n

What more and more companies are finding out is that time and attendance technologies like barcode scanning, RFID, Personal Identification Numbers (PIN\u2019s) and manual punch clocks are less expensive short term fixes, but in the long run, they can be exploited and are susceptible to fraud rendering them a poor long term solution to buddy punching.\u00a0 What do these companies discover is a more viable long term solution?\u00a0 Biometric technology.<\/p>\n
