I heard today that Securlinx has invited Michael Kirkpatrick,\u00a0the FBI&#8217;s Assistant Director in Charge of the Bureau&#8217;s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division from January 2001 &#8211; August 2004, who led the Division through profound IT changes especially relating to the application of biometric technologies to the challenges of law enforcement and the transition from a paper to an electronic system.<\/p>\n<p>You can read more about Michael&#8217;s background over at the Securlinx blog by clicking <a title=\"Securlinx biometrics blog\" href=\"https:\/\/securlinx.blogspot.com\/2012\/07\/michael-d-kirkpatrick-fbi-assistant.html\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, the FBI maintains the world&#8217;s largest collection of biometric data and facilitates information sharing between law enforcement organizations and a range of both public and private entities. The CJIS center handles more than 61 million ten-print submissions a year. Average response time for an electronic criminal fingerprint submission is about 27 minutes, Electronic civil submissions are processed within 72 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Since the FBI essentially paved the way from using a paper fingerprinting system to the modern Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) and Michael was a key part of facilitating that transition, this promises to be an excellent topic and a very interesting conversation.
